- The paste covering the area operated upon is a periodontal cement which hardens after approximately half an hour. This cement protects and helps the healing of the gum. However, it is not a material which adheres with any great strength. It is important that this cement is kept as is until the removal of the stitches. It is possible that small fragments may fall off, which is of no importance. However, if it comes loose or comes off in its entirety during the first two or three days, it is best to call us by telephone in case it should prove necessary to insert new cement.
